Kart Fighter (NES)

Kart Fighter is a Mario Kart-themed fighting game for the NES. It seems to be based on the same pirate Street Fighter game as the Famicom Mortal Kombat 3 and Tekken 2. The music is converted from the SNES Mario Kart and several backgrounds are borrowed from other lesser-known NES games.

The characters to choose from. Very similar to the roster of Mario Kart. The sprites are actually well done. They wouldn't look out of place in an official NES game.

The characters tend to flicker a lot, but the gameplay is entertaining enough to permit overlooking that fact. Much like Mortal Kombat 3, A is punch, and B is kick, and moving away from the enemy puts you in a defensive blocking position.

Somari the Adventurer (NES)

Somari the Adventurer is a Hong Kong Original based on the concept of a Sonic and Mario mash-up game.

The title screen is based on that of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis, with art from Super Mario Brothers 3 added in place of Sonic.

The physics are based on those found in the Sonic games though they are horribly executed. The speed of Somari's running is erratic, and changes drastically every time you jump or turn.

Sonic's spindash is included.

Mortal Kombat 3: Special 56 Peoples (NES)

One of many Mortal Kombat-themed hacks made for the homebrew Street Fighter cart available in the mid-90's. Not sure exactly when this one came out. It's featured prominently in several NES Multicarts, information on which you can find here.

When you boot it up, you're greeted with the familiar thunder intro from Mortal Kombat II and... the title screen from Mortal Kombat II. Not much care was taken in coordinating the actual name of the game with the title screen.

The gameplay is very similar to the Gameboy versions of Mortal Kombat II and 3. Although many fireball-oriented moves are carried over from Street Fighter, some characters such as Liu Kang are treated to their MK2 specials. Also carried over from Street Fighter are some of the gameplay mechanics, namely mid-round dizziness.

The title screen. All characters from Mortal Kombat II are present here, including the bosses(!). Notably missing are the titular 56 Peoples.

Disclaimer: As this is an unlicensed game, I doubt the makers of both the original and the port will have a problem with a link to the ROM. However, please don't sell it, and you shouldn't really ever pay for one; hacks like these are a dime-a-dozen and are rarely worth it.
